It was fun to chat tonight. Thanks to all those that checked in. To start out this week I mentioned an article I read by Vaneta Rogers on Newsarama about Kickstarter.com. As far as I understand it Kickstarter.com is a website that allows artist types to pitch projects to the public and acquire the funding needed to get it off the ground. It’s done through a bidding process and can be done in small amounts so as to allow people to participant at many different investment levels. I personally haven’t tried it but I’m going to look into it further and see if it might suit me. It seems to be working for other artists so I think it’s something to consider.

The other topic I commented on was the recent sale of Peanuts to the Schultz along with their partners ICONIX. To be honest I don’t know enough about the business of syndication or that of brand companies like ICONIX to make an educated judgment about the news. Nonetheless I think it’s significant that the Schultz family is gaining control of the rights for Peanuts. I wonder if it’s a sign of the times for the syndication business or just an interesting event. It does surprise me that a syndicate would want to part with such a significant property as Peanuts but I’m happy for the Schultz family. I’m glad to see that the legacy of Peanuts will be decided by his family and that they’ll be able to profit from it.
